課程概述 |
Course Description:
Citing Gilbert Simondon's account of how the past is enfolded into the present to form regularities of transformation in technical objects, N. Katherine Hayles, in How We Think: Digital Media and Contemporary Technogenesis, elaborates on the “complex temporalities” of such objects as part of an “object-centered view” of the world. It can be said, however, that, compared with other topics, far less attention has been given to possible new accounts of time and temporality in the emerging field of studies of posthumanity. Based on Hayles’ formulation, this course aims to look into contemporary theory and cultural production for possible resources to supplement the Simodonian approach and further our understanding of modes of temporal being that are coming into light in the context of an intensifying posthuman world. |

Course Objectives:
A better understanding of new articulations of time and temporality would help point to new ways to read contemporary society and culture as deeply involved in posthuman restructurations of forms of life. The main objectives of this course are, therefore, to seek such an understanding, to explicate the need to study time and temporality in emerging new contexts, and to work through its theorization to shed light on our position and the position of our profession in the contemporary world. |
